Ocean Diver
This is the basic diver qualification enabling you ,once qualified, to dive to a depth of 20m.
It is comprised of lectures, pool sessions, open water dives and a multiple choice exam. The minimum level of competence is to swim eight lengths of Sutton baths freestyle.
The cost is £186.50 for one years membership to BSAC and our branch, training pack (folder, student workbook, qualification book, Diving manual), hire of diving kit.
What's not included are pool session fees (£2.50 per session) lecture night facilities(£2.00 per session) open water dive site entry fees(£10.00 per day for Stoney cove) and a diving suit.
Once qualified to Ocean diver we recommend that you progress to Sports Diver which will enable you to get full benefit from your training.

Sports Diver
After completion of Ocean diver you can progress onto sports diver training.The cost of the next training pack is £30.00 which is added to your existing student notes.
The course consists of lectures, pool sessions, open water dives, dry practical sessions and a multiple choice exam.Once completed you are able to dive to a max depth of 35m.
We try to start students in multiples of two, which helps in training with buddy pairs and cuts down on the work load for our instructors.

Dive Leader
The cost of the next training pack is £30.00 which is added to your existing student notes.
This course is more in depth and usually takes longer to complete.
The course consists of lectures, pool sessions, open water dives, dry practical sessions and a multiple choice exam.

Advanced Diver
Andy Harrison has completed this course, under the old scheme of Skill Development Courses.The new course involves lectures
and open water work which can be completed within the branch.

Instructor
Instructor training is run through head office and information is available direct from BSAC Courses
Once you have gained your sports diver qualification then you can attend an Instructor Foundation Course and become an Assistant Instructor.
You can then come back to the club and use the new skills you have learnt and instruct under the supervision of a qualified instructor.
Once you have gained experience you are assessed at a regional exam.
